1. Acceptance of these terms
By using Fred's Privacy (the "Service"), whether through the website or by forwarding email to it, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What the Service is
The Service is a personal, non-commercial project that analyzes submitted emails for indicators of phishing and scams, and returns an automated verdict with a confidence score and supporting indicators. It combines email-authentication checks, link reputation lookups, and AI content analysis.
3. Advisory only: no guarantee
The Service's output is advisory and informational only. It is not a guarantee, certification, or professional security assessment. The Service may classify a dangerous email as safe (a false negative) or a safe email as dangerous (a false positive). You must not rely on it as your sole basis for deciding whether to trust an email, click a link, open an attachment, transfer money, or share information. When anything of value is at stake, independently verify the sender through a channel you already trust.
4. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not:
- Submit content you do not have the right to submit, or that violates the rights of others.
- Submit emails containing passwords, financial account numbers, government identifiers, health information, or other sensitive personal data (see the Privacy Policy for why).
- Use the Service to build, test, or refine phishing or malware for malicious purposes.
- Attempt to overload, disrupt, reverse-engineer for abuse, or circumvent the rate limits or other protective measures of the Service.
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable law.
The Service applies automated rate limiting and may block, throttle, or refuse requests at any time, for any reason, without notice.
5. Third-party processing
To perform analysis, the Service sends email content to third parties, including Anthropic (for AI analysis) and threat-intelligence providers (for link reputation). By using the Service you consent to this processing. Details are in the Privacy Policy. The Service is not responsible for the practices of those third parties.
6. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. The Service may be unavailable, interrupted, or discontinued at any time without notice. There is no guarantee of uptime, accuracy, or continued availability.
7. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of the Service shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, money, profits, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, including any decision you make based on its output. Because the Service is provided free of charge as a personal project, you agree that the operator's total liability to you for any claim arising from the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to use it, which is zero.
8. Indemnification
You agree to hold harmless the operator of the Service from any claims or demands arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these terms.
9. Changes and termination
These terms may be updated from time to time; the "last updated" date reflects the latest version. The Service may be modified, suspended, or shut down at any time. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there.
